Back in April, when the pandemic was brand new (man, remember those days?), I wrote a post about "eight good things during bad times." Months later, the pandemic is still going strong (despite some people's insistence on returning to regular life), & I'm back with eight more small but happy things.
1. I've gotten back into reading.
I don't know why it took me so long to read a freaking book when the pandemic began, but at the beginning, I wasn't reading a damn thing - like, not a single word on a single page. It took me months! I'm still not reading as much as I had been, but I'm finally back in a bit of a groove.
2. The Bachelor is back... sort of.
Bachelor in Paradise couldn't film this summer, but I've been enjoying The Bachelor: The Greatest Seasons Ever instead. Sure, I've already seen most of these seasons, & no, it's not exactly riveting material, but it's keeping me in new content - both TV and podcasts.
3. I bought roller skates.
To my husband's dismay, I shelled out a whopping $50 for a pair of roller skates from Amazon, at my friend Brittany's urging. She bought a light pink pair (mine are black, obviously), &... you know, we'll see how it goes. I don't foresee falling in love with roller skating, but it'll be fun to try!
4. It's peach season.
OK, I guess I don't know when peach season is or how long it lasts, but we seem to be in the middle of it right now, given that I've bought a bunch of peaches? Yeah. Really into peaches right now.
5. I'm loving yoga & meditation.
For now, at least, I'm really enjoying Peloton classes with one of their newer instructors, Dr. Chelsea Jackson Roberts, who plays music from the likes of Keith Sweat & DeBarge & who never makes me feel pressured or less-than when I can't quite hit those poses or get in that headspace.
6. I've been rewatching Law & Order: SVU.
I know, I know, there are approximately a billion seasons. I started with season eight, which is where I left off on my last attempt at a rewatch. I've got to be honest: Stabler's character does not hold up, & I do not celebrate his upcoming return. Stabler sucks. Olivia deserves better.
7. Weekends at the lake house are pretty great.
I feel fortunate to continue to have access to my mom's friend's lake house in Port Clinton (which I wrote about earlier this summer). Being able to spend time on the water, out of my normal environment, is so good for the soul.
8. BODY TALK comes out today!
That's right, today is the release date of BODY TALK: 37 Voices Discuss Our Radical Anatomy, (Algonquin Young Readers), which includes my essay about starting middle school in a back brace due to my scoliosis. Check it out!
What's bring you small joys these days?
