I don't know how interested you are in reading more from me, given that I blog here pretty darn often, but in case you are interested, well, I thought I'd share some of the things I've written lately, all rounded up in one easy spot (as much for my benefit as for yours, if I'm being honest).
Yes, I've had a lot of deadlines to meet lately, & sometimes it feels like every spare moment is spent writing something else, but it also feels totally worth it to do what I love & to love what I do, cliches be damned. (Find more of my thoughts about whether or not I am a writer/journalist in the caption of this recent Instagram post).
Here's where (else) you can find me these days...
Lotsa Restaurant Reviews
I've been writing monthly dining features - 1,300-word pieces that are part review/part chef profile - for Cleveland Magazine. My editor, Kim, had been writing these reviews every month for years, before moving into her exciting new role as the magazine's editor-in-chief & passing them along to me to write instead. I feel so honored to be asked to write them, & I'm loving the process... including all the great food!- Lindey's Lake House: The Beachwood restaurant boasts an easygoing coastal vibe and a strong seaside comfort food menu.
- Landmark: A nontraditional route to pit-mastery sets apart the chefs behind the smokehouse on the border of Lakewood.
- Wild Mango & Osso: Reviews coming soon!
That Anthology Essay I've Been Alluding To
This one isn't yet available for you to read, but how could I not tell you about it?! I am thrilled to have been invited to write a piece about my scoliosis experience for Body Talk, an upcoming anthology featuring celebs like Tyra Banks & Aly Raisman, & well-known writers like Goodreads Poet of the Year Amanda Lovelace & Dumplin' author Julie Murphy. Add the book to your Goodreads "Want to Read List"!My First Piece for WISH Cleveland
A few days after I wrote about local dance company Dancing Wheels here on my own blog, I submitted a reported, news-style story about the company to WISH Cleveland, a site that shares local news for changemakers, social justice seekers, & idealists in Northeast Ohio. Read "Let There Be Dancing."A Shout-out to My Favorite CLE Coffee Shop
I put together a quick write-up about my favorite local place to get that sweet, sweet caffeine fix, included in a round-up on big-time travel blogger Amanda Williams' new, locally based site Cleveland Traveler. Read about the coffee shop I like best.A Quick Mental Health Interview
My friend Yetti of Yetti Says did a month-long series of mental health check-ins with some friends & fellow bloggers. Of course, I was accidentally a little bit more verbose than all the other respondents, as is my custom, but hey, I care a lot about this stuff. Read my mental health mantra & more.
An Exciting Journalism Award
And finally, can I brag for a sec? I recently won third place in the Cleveland Press Club's Excellence in Journalism Awards' "Single Essay" category for my summer 2018 piece about my struggle with thoughts of suicide. Was I initially bummed to be third? Yes. And then I realized that hey, this is kind of amazing, & I can't believe I was a finalist or even a nominee, much less a winner. So I'm feeling really good. Read last summer's (award-winning!) mental health essay.
What have you done lately that you're proud of? Humblebrag a little!
