As promised, I got a car. Helloooooo, beautiful 2008 Honda Civic that is not at (as great of a) risk of breaking down mid-highway!
Also, I got a cat. Meet Stringer Bell, originally named George (we can't decide), age 10, adopted from our local SPCA. He likes cuddling, sleeping in bed with me & sneezing in my face; he does not like catnip, responding to our calls or, it seems, eating his food.
Following announcement of my two new acquisitions, my boss sent me a concerned email: "First a car and now a cat? This suburban thing is getting out of hand."
Ain't that the truth! He made me promise I wouldn't "lose [my] edge." I promised, of course, but this cat in my lap seems to have other plans for me.
I also promise not to become one of those simpering, obnoxious pet owners who constantly talks about & posts photos of my cat. Then again, I once promised not to be a douchey, Apple-worshiping iPhone owner who Googles things mid-conversation, either - and just look at me now.

Hey. I am one of those simpering, obnoxious pet owners who constantly talks about & posts photos of my cat— And you still love me, right?
ReplyDeleteAlso, have you taken the kitty to the vet yet? if he's sneezing a lot he may have a cold.
Stick with the name George! Like it much better. What a cutie.
ReplyDeleteYay for a new car and pet. Just curious, why did you get a 10 year old and not a younger cat?
ReplyDeleteWe went with an older cat because, honestly, cats live for a long time -
ReplyDeletesometimes two decades! - and who knows where we'll be in next year, much
less the next 20? Older cats end up in shelters longer because people don't
want them - but we thought he'd be a good choice because he's already
housebroken, already "trained" (as much as cats are trained anyway), already
a friendly, lovable guy without being too hyperactive, as kittens sometimes
are. He's got a lot of good years left in him, but not nearly as many as a
younger cat, so he seemed perfect for us!
See, I knew you had a well thought out reason. Well, either that or it was love at first sight :)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that you adopted an older cat. There are so many people out there looking for kittens & sadly the older cats usually spend an extraordinarily long time looking for their forever homes.
ReplyDeleteI'm totally one of those people who is obsessed with their pet and thinks everyone else should be too... Embrace it. It's a good way to be.
ReplyDeleteIt was that, too, actually. :)
ReplyDeleteLike your cat a lot!!
ReplyDeleteAnd congrats on the car as well.
Embrace the suburban living :)
I'm all about adopting older pets. I don't have to be the one to potty train them. :P But then again, some of the bad habits that other people have ingrained into their pets - can't get out of those.
ReplyDeleteLook at you, first a car, now a cat. What next?!?! Keep us posted. :p
The more I read your blog the more I'm sorry we didn't meet while you were in the D.C. area!
ReplyDeleteOkay, so I admit when I (might) have been wrong -- George looks mighty happy & so do you, so I guess you were meant to have another cat.
ReplyDeleteYay for the new car!
ReplyDeleteAlso, your cat is cute! One of my cats (Loki) is currently keeping my feet warm. We've had him since he was a kitten, and he's probably close to two years old now. (Our other cat, Eris, is about a year old now.) I'm pretty much a crazy cat lady. :)
I love that you chose to adopt an older cat. Rescue animals really are the best.
ReplyDeletecongrats on the new car.
ReplyDeleteLove the cat, and the car :) heh. I google everything too, via android though. ;)
ReplyDeleteOh man, I love it so much that you named your kitty after one of the gangsters from the Wire. I personally would have chosen "Avon Barksdale" (I hated Stringer's character in the series) but maybe that's a better name for a dog?
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the car and the kitty is so cute!
ReplyDeleteYour cat is ADORABLE! PLEASE become "one of those" pet owners who posts a bajillion pics!
ReplyDeletehehe, love the iPhone comment. those dang things are addicting, just like texting, i swear!
ReplyDeleteyour cat's so cute!
Sometimes you just can't help but post about your cat (see post two days ago). :|
ReplyDeleteCivics for life. Really for life.
ReplyDeleteAww that cat is cute! I like the name George.
ReplyDeleteOMG your cat is beautiful! Are his little paws crossed? Dying of the cute!
ReplyDeleteHaha, they are! Isn't he quite the furry little gentleman?!
ReplyDeleteI told George that you named your cat George and I think he was flattered.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! You did yourself right buying a used CVCC. Great mileage, reliability and it'll run forever.
ReplyDeleteCan't say the same about the cat.
BTW, just read your Facebook post. I'll have you know that it is perfectly acceptable -- if not dutiful -- to post what you're eating as a status update. Otherwise, great post!
ReplyDeleteGeorge.
ReplyDeleteThat is so awesome! Congrats on your new car and cat! :] I've never had a cat because my mom was always allergic and now I have a dog.....but maybe one day I'll get a cute little kitten.
ReplyDeleteAnd I think George is a cute name! :]
I love the name George and that he crosses his paws for the photo. Too adorable. Congrats on taking suburban living to the next step! :)
ReplyDeleteOOO NEW CAR, I am jealous. Ha, I typo'd "mew car" on accident and that is pretty appropriate.
ReplyDeleteHalf of all blog posts on the internet are in fact about cats.
ReplyDeleteCUTE cat! And I am rather jealous of your car.
ReplyDeleteMost adorable cat evarrrr! Meow, meow, meow.
ReplyDeleteNice car choice! Very cute. I really hope the kitty is feeling better!!! I try to limit pics of my cat as well, but sometimes you just can't help it!
ReplyDeleteyay for a new car!!!
ReplyDeleteYAY for a new car & cat!! and haha, I love the email from your boss.
ReplyDeleteYEAH HONDA CIVICS! mine is 10 years old and i still love it!
ReplyDeleteYour cat is so gutclenchingly cute! Gah!
ReplyDeleteLove the sushi photos/breakdown post before!
My best friends and I have a plan for living together. Not exactly how or when we will accomplish this, but rather, our cats and what their names will be: Disel, Fenway and Dipset. We're obviously really cool.
ReplyDeleteGirl, you will definitely become one of those people who always post pet photos. It's inevitable if you have a cat, hahaha. I was NEVER a cat person, then I finally got one and I looooove him. Cats have personality.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the car!!!
