In case you missed the rest of the series, check out the other stuff tourists like by reading Part I & Part II, as observed during my lunch hour in the National Zoo neighborhood. Today, I proudly present you with the newest installment, one with lots of photographic evidence to prove its truthfulness:
- Bucket Hats: It's sunny out there, & as a Cullen-skinned young lady myself, I respect tourists' desire to avoid melanoma. After all, no one digs the leather look (save Snooki, I guess, but she's not visiting the National Zoo), which means lathering sunscreen on religiously, only to promptly sweat it off - or donning a hat to shield the rays.
I tend to be of the belief system that almost all hats are hideously disgusting, though I concede that there are some forgivable options, including variations on the fedora & the straw hat. But you know what I can almost never get on board with? Bucket hats. And tourists love bucket hats. They're everywhere. I truly have no idea why, having not sported a bucket hat myself since the very early '90s (Lord forgive me). Maybe it's the brim? Maybe it's the full coverage the brim provides? Maybe it's a Gilligan complex? Regardless, every time I head out to pick up lunch, I spot at least five new bucket hats on the go.
And come on. These hats are good. Am I right?

I love your layout! Looks amazing! xoxo
I like the new look, particularly the paper airplanes and your new photo.
The kids are pretty cute.
And I love the new design! So jealous!
I love the new layout and that picture of you- you look amazing! Also, I definitely remember us having bucket hats in middle school. ;)
Love the new layout, especially the header! I don't own a bucket hat and wouldn't even purchase one if I were going to be a tourist somewhere. But, it's been so damn hot this summer, perhaps it's okay if fashion takes a back seat ;)
First of all, I'm in love with the new blog design. & second, I couldn't agree more. I absolutely dislike hats. I'm leaving to Chile tomorrow for a 'roughing-it' sort of trip and don't know how often I'll get to wash my hair so I had to find a few hats to take. I'm taking a black trucker hat, which just might be worse than a bucket hat. But oh well. It's all I had leftover from about eight years ago or whenever those things were supposedly in style. Ha. xx
i remember wearing a bucket hat on vacations with family as a kid, thankfully as a kid you can get away with those ridiculous things. i'm sure i wore it on one of our many DC vacations as well. sigh. thank god you weren't around then to document it :)
also? layout=AMAZING.
WHAT! Your new blog looks so freakin fab!!!! I love it.
And my offspring own bucket hats that i make them wear every time we go play outside anywhere...I even made Isaiah wear it when playing after school on the playground and I am the extended care teacher so he couldn't escape it LOL!
THEY HATE ME FOR THOSE DAMN BUCKET HATS
I think the pictures turned out well!
And love the new layout!
love the hats and the new layout! I'm going to grab your button.! I have one too if you are so inclined to add me to your sidebar of awesome :)
Also, when I move to Woodley we should probs go to open city and people watch together :)
I have a picture of me in a Gilligan's Island style bucket hat from a trip to Mesa Verde in high school. I wish I didn't have that picture.
I think the bucket hat is only acceptable on little people...i.e. babies and toddlers. On adults they are usually hoplessly unflattering...and they totally remind me of the 90's/high school when it was cool to wear Tommy or CK bucket hats. yikes!
