What Life Looks Like Right Now

Thursday, January 14, 2021

Sometimes when I don't know what the hell to write about or don't have the brain capacity for a "themed" post, I just do these round-up posts that round up... life lately. What have you been up to? Here's where my brain is these days.

I'm trying to cope with the state of the world.

For me, this means a number of things. My day job is fairly active in terms of responding to current political events, creating social justices-focused resources (including racial equity, diversity, & inclusion content), etc., which has been keeping me busy. I'm grateful for a job that helps me feel productive & a part of a solution, but I also haven't had a lot of time or energy to process my own individual, human feelings.

I'm selling stuff on the Internet again.

I finally set up my printer, & by finally, I mean... I think I've had it for three years? This means I'm back in the reselling biz, with my Poshmark store back up & running & a new Mercari shop, too, to see if I can sell a bunch of old stuff to make some extra cash. I've already sold a couple of things, which feels pretty good.

I'm trying to eat better.

Mike & I started WW again, not necessarily to try to lose weight but to try to manage portion control & overall intake, just to try to be healthier. We're not being hard on ourselves if & where we go outside the bounds of our points allotment, like on New Year's Eve or the very stressful day of the Capitol insurrection, but it's nice to have some guardrails to just, like... keep me from eating every single thing

I'm cooking more.

Of course, being on WW means tracking what we eat, & to do that, I have to know what I'm eating. My mom got us an air fryer for the holidays, so I'm currently obsessed with cornflake-crusted chicken tenders, & I've been making a lot of crispy air-fryer chickpeas. I'm also eating a lot of plain Greek yogurt with blueberries, cinnamon, & this 0pt maple walnut syrup, which is delightfully desserty.

I'm trying to get back into exercise.

I haven't been doing a great job of working out lately, which is, I guess, what happens after you try 75Hard. I worked out for two hours a day, every day, for 65 days straight, & then, instead of having established a healthy habit, I wanted to never work out again ever. I've been doing some Peloton "just ride" rides, watching TV as I do, which has been going well for me.

I'm enjoying the return of good TV.

Speaking of watching TV, a bunch of my favorite shows are coming back. I'm thrilled to see the return of The Good Doctor, The Resident, S.W.A.T, & of course, the new season of The Bachelor (which I wrote a little bit about), with more coming soon. I also binged The Flight Attendant, which I loved, Fear the Walking Dead, which I surprisingly also loved, & The Undoing, which I didn't love quite as much.

...annnnd I'm not going anywhere at all.

One of my close friends & my aunt both have COVID, for starters, & I'm just... you know, (still) super panicky. The only place I've gone indoors in the last four or five (or six? what is time?) weeks is a local coffee shop that only allows four people inside at a time, & I only go if there's no one else in there. But increasingly, I don't even feel comfortable there...

What a weird world, huh? So tell me: What are you up to these days?

  1. Also up to a whole lot of nothing. I'm sharing a lot of those super panicky feelings despite only leaving the house for FB Marketplace porch pickups, doctor appointments, and hiking/running outside. While I finished my master's degree in 2020, the idea of building my business right now feels... empty?

Be that as it may, I ALSO did not enjoy The Undoing as much as I wanted to enjoy it. The Flight Attendant kinda captured me/kinda didn't (i.e., watch it while scrolling online). I mean, it's good, but hoping 2nd season can be better? This season of The Bachelor continues my eye-rolling-but-can't-stop-watching.

    Anyway, solidarity, friend!
