My Favorite (Annual!) Way to Explore the CLE

Monday, May 27, 2019

June 21st-23rd is Visit Me in CLE Weekend, when Destination Cleveland wants local residents to host out-of-town friends & family here in the Forest City - & I'm already working on a "48 Hours in Cleveland" post for any outside-the-CLE folks who are planning a visit.

But another exciting exploration event starts that weekend, too: the 6th annual Cleveland Young Professionals Week, hosted by Engage! Cleveland, is an opportunity for local twenty- and thirtysomethings to try out the best of what this city has to offer its younger audience.

Real-talk: I'm feeling sliiightly self-conscious because, at 34, I'm on the brink of no longer qualifying as a "young professional." Yikes, that feels weird! How did I get so old so quickly? But I do love YP Week, & I'm a media partner again this year, so I still count for now. (Get back at me next summer, though, when I'm a whopping 35 years old & feelin' reaaaal strange about life.)

From June 22 – 29, Engage! Cleveland will host dozens of events to help young professionals grow both personally & professionally while discovering fun opportunities & offerings around the CLE. From fitness classes & wine tastings to leadership panels & behind-the-scenes business tours - & even a build-your-own-bouquet event - they've really stepped it up this year.

Check out their entire event calendar, & register quickly because some of the events are already sold out! Here are the events I'm most excited about, if you're trying to decide...

> Rooftop Yoga

$10, Sat., June 22, 10-11:15am
I'm not a big yoga person, but I do love a good view - and if any place in town has a great one, it's the Tremont Athletic Club. This 45-minute all-levels class will take place atop one of the city's nicest gyms, overlooking the downtown skyline.

Community Service Project

free, Sat., June 22, 1-3pm
Studies show that being read to as a child & having books in the home are the two most important predictors of academic success - but two-thirds of local low-income families don't own a single children’s book. Volunteers will meet at the Cleveland Kids' Book Bank to pack books for schools, Little Free Libraries, churches, & more. As a librarian's daughter & an avid reader myself, this one is so important to me.

Mitchell's Ice Cream Tour

$15, Mon., June 24, 5-6:30pm
Nobody wants to know how the proverbial sausage is made, but what about how the ice cream is made? Yeah, I'm way more into that. This behind-the-scenes look at Cleveland's favorite ice cream shop will include a private tour of their Ohio City headquarters & a conversation with owner & ice cream chef Pete Mitchell.

The Intersection of Community & Neighborhoods in the CLE

$20, Tuesday, June 25, 2019 12-1:30pm
Wanna know what's next for the CLE? Hosted by news anchor Tiffani Tucker at the Cleveland Bar Association, this lunchtime panel with local development leaders will discuss the uniqueness of the city's many differing neighborhoods, their history, & current/ongoing projects throughout the city.

A Home Run for Cleveland: Scoring the All-Star Game

$20, Thurs., June 27, 2019 12-1:30pm
Playyyyy ball! Cleveland is hosting the MLB All-Star Game is this July - but what does that mean for the city? This lunchtime panel, moderated by MLB.com reporter Mandy Bell, will feature local sports leadership about the planning & execution of the big game in the CLE.
Fri, June 28, 2019 6-6:45am
As a bona fide night owl, I wouldn't normally make it downtown (or anywhere) for a 6am class, but you already know how much I love Harness - & I'd love to show up to this class to cheer on any newbies who arrive to try out the studio for the first time with Engage! Cleveland.

Will I see you there? Let me know what you'll be attending; I'd love to say hi IRL.
Disclosure: I was asked to promote Engage! Cleveland's Young Professionals Week events on my blog & social media in exchange for complimentary tickets to a few events; I have also paid out-of-pocket for a few of my because I really want to attend things! As always, all opinions are my own.
