Exploring Our City: Cleveland Young Professionals Week is Coming!

Thursday, June 7, 2018

Sometimes I worry that I no longer qualify as a "young professional." After all, my coworkers like to refer to me as "an old millennial," & surely that means I'm... you know... getting old?! And I mean, that's how life works - we're all getting old - but luckily, I do still qualify as a young professional.

Why "luckily"? Because one of my favorite weeks of the year is coming up this month - Engage Cleveland!'s Young Professionals Week.

Whew, I still qualify!

Hosted by Engage! Cleveland, Young Professionals Week is a week full of activities geared toward helping young professionals connect with one another, with other local professionals, & with our city at large. The week's 35+ events are divided up in four categories - learning, networking/social events, community service, & fitness - at varying price points. Some of the events are even free.

I'm really excited to be, for the first time, a YP Week media partner, which means, in part, that I'll be attending more events than usual - & I couldn't be more excited about them. Here's what's on my calendar:

Bootcamp with the Cleveland Browns

Yikes, this one has me nervous! Browns’ Wellness Manager Dee Vega will host an hour-long workout class in the Brown’s indoor fieldhouse at their Berea training facility. (June 23 @ 10:00 am, $8.00)

Common Ground: Young Professional Edition

Common Ground is "the Cleveland Foundation’s initiative to explore our community’s power to communicate and connect in order to build a stronger, safer and more dynamic home." This event, specially designed for the YP crowd, includes lunch & a conversation about the future of our city. (June 24, 2018 @ 11:30 am, free)

Young Professional Civic Engagement Fair

More than a dozen local non-profits will be on hand at this event at the 5th Street Arcades for local young professionals to learn more about how to get involved. I've been working with Big Brothers Big Sisters & the Cleveland Kids Book Bank & am excited to see how I can step up my civic involvement. There's a job fair happening elsewhere in the building at the same time, so I'll probably stop by that, too, with a friend who's job-hunting. You never know what's out there! (June 25 @ 5:30 pm, free)

Hop College 101 with Great Lakes Brewing Company

Seven beer samples from my favorite local brewery, plus beer science, light appetizers, & a history of the company? Yes, please. (June 26 @ 5:30 pm, $25)

Ladies of the CLE: Supporting and Uplifting Women

My friend Brittany & I are attending this luncheon together to hear from a panel of Cleveland's female entrepreneurs about how they're growing a sense of community in this city while also flourishing in business. (June 29 @ 11:30 am, $15)

So far, I've registered for these five events, but I may yet sign on for a few others - including their discounted 6am Harness Cycle classes! (OK, who am I kidding? The only time I get up at 5:30am is for flights.)

If you'll be attending any of these events, let me know. I'd love to see you there as we get to know more about our city & the many opportunities it offers.

Haven't yet decided what to attend? Check out the whole schedule of Engage! Cleveland's Young Professionals Week events.

Disclaimer: I received complimentary tickets to two Young Professionals Week events in exchange for my help spreading the word about the program. I purchased one ticket on my own. As always, all views & enthusiasm are my own. Photo by Megan Witt of The Upspeak Collective.
